A Brighter Future

Safeguarding

Cleves Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the physical, mental and emotional welfare of every pupil, both inside and outside of the school premises. We implement a whole-school preventative approach to managing safeguarding concerns, ensuring that the wellbeing of pupils is at the forefront of all action taken. We work closely with all multi-agencies to ensure that children are protected from risk of emotional and physical harm or at risk from neglect. We follow stringent procedures for the recruitment of staff and for visitors entering our school.

The school has a zero-tolerance approach to abuse, including child-on-child abuse, as confirmed in the Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.

We take student welfare and safety very seriously and take action to reduce all kinds of harm including: abuse, bullying, discrimination and avoidable injuries. We also promote a culture where children and adults feel confident to share their concerns about their own or others’ safety and wellbeing.

All Cleves staff receive regular safeguarding training, and we continue to ensure that our staff, governors, parents/carers and students work together to keep children safe. We take account of the information contained in the DfE documents ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children‘ and ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education: Statutory Guidance for Schools and Colleges’ (September 2022) as the safety and protection of children is of paramount importance to everyone in this school and we work hard to create a culture of vigilance.

What to do if you are concerned about a child?

Adults have a responsibility to share any concerns they have, even when they may have some doubts as to whether a child is being harmed. If you are concerned about a child, speak to someone. This might be a health visitor, teacher, family doctor, social worker or police officer. You can also contact the school and request to speak to one of the Safeguarding Leads.

If you are worried about something online or something involving you online, you can let the school know.

If you suspect Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) of a child please inform the police.

If you have concerns around risk, please inform the school Safeguarding Team or call MASH on 02033734600.
